It tells the story of a couple in the midst of a divorce who argue over custody of their son, torn by his parents in shared custody.
To raise awareness of domestic violence, Xavier Legrand decided to put his audience under pressure in Jusqu'à la garde. A successful bet since the film won four awards at the 2019 César Awards, including Best Film and Best Original Screenplay. Because contrary to appearances, this is a fiction and not a drama inspired from a true story… At least in detail.
Up to custodyis indeed based on the reality experienced by victims of domestic violence. The director conducted research with a family court judge, spoke with lawyers and police officers familiar with these issues, as well as groups of violent men. A quasi-documentary work in order to best serve the painful subject of the film. The Ministry of the Interior said it had recorded 271,000 victims of domestic violence in 2023, an increase of 10% compared to the previous year. 93 femicides (and 319 attempts) were recorded in 2023. Since the beginning of the year, 117 femicides have been recorded as of November 20, 2024.
The cast includes Denis Ménochet ("The Dancer"), Léa Drucker ("News from Mars"), Jean-Claude Leguay (the TV series "The Source"), Jean-Marie Winling ("Marseille") and Florence Janas ("Trepalium"). At the 44th César Awards, Until custody wins four awards: best film, best actress for Láa Drucker, best original screenplay and best editing.

Rate this movie Matt – 03/28/2018 Report Oppressive, we absolutely want to know the end, his short film was already like that to see before the film because it's the sequel nono – 03/22/2018 Report Personally, I did not understand the rave reviews of this film and I completely agree with Fanchon! This film is hardly interesting since it is folded from the beginning! If we want to make a documentary report on the mistreatment of men towards women very fashionable at the moment, then it's okay! But if we want to make a film about a relationship, then we make a film, with a psychological plot a little more developed! In a couple in perdition, no one is white or black and no one knows where the original disagreement comes from! -) here, given the idiot's face of the husband, we do not get lost in conjecture for long! why make us suffer all this “sleaze”, sewn in advance!! “Mon RoI” was truly a success in the genre of difficult couples and (moral) violence; This one really lacks cinematic interest, it doesn't even have any! I felt cheated by the critics! and I came out furious Fairytales58 – 03/09/2018 Report Excellent performance by all the actors. We realize the solitude and responsibility of the judge who only has the contents of a file and a short interview with the family to form an opinion and make a decision. I admit to having wondered about a possible instrumentalization of the child, little by little the reality is revealed until the dramatic finale. slb – 03/02/2018 Report Very fair…well shot with very good actors. This film leaves us speechless. To recommend. MotionPic – 02/27/2018 Report The film doesn't bring much to the subject and doesn't make us think, a story of a couple who breaks up, usual and banal unfortunately. The actors are excellent including Julien the 11 year old child.
