Cybertruck Wasn't Enough: Tesla Faces Drop in Sales

Tesla has just published its production and sales figures for the last quarter and for the year 2024. And the least we can say is that this year has not been a good one for Elon Musk's company. Indeed, according to this data, Tesla produced a total of 1,773,443 vehicles in 2024, and delivered 1,789,226. This corresponds to a slight decrease compared to 2023 sales. And, above all, as our colleagues at TechCrunch note, this is the first time that Tesla's annual sales have declined.

The Cybertruck is not off to a flying start

The release of the Cybertruck, its electric pickup, has not managed to reverse the trend. Moreover, the manufacturer does not indicate precisely how many Cybertrucks were sold in 2024. According to its data, Tesla sold 1,704,093 Model 3s and Model Ys. As for the “other” models, which include the Cybertruck, they totaled 85,133 deliveries.
Based on Tesla’s published data, our colleagues at Elektrek estimated that the manufacturer likely sold between 9,000 and 12,000 Cybertrucks in the last quarter of 2024, and that these sales would be lower than those of the third quarter. However, since this is only an estimate, caution is still advised.

Too early to draw conclusions

Furthermore, it is probably still too early to draw conclusions about the long-term success of Tesla’s Cybertruck, even if the latest data suggests that the manufacturer could face a demand problem.

As a reminder, Tesla will present its financial results for the last quarter of 2024 on January 29. We will probably have more details on the manufacturer's situation, and on its plans to return to growth.

  • Tesla has just published its production and delivery figures for the last quarter of 2024
  • Tesla sales were down compared to 2023, despite the arrival of the Cybertruck, the manufacturer's electric pickup truck
  • Tesla will present its financial results this January and the manufacturer is expected to take the opportunity to roll out a plan to return to growth
