Selon les prévisionnistes, la trajectoire du cyclone passera à 75 kilomètres au sud de l’archipel dévasté il y a un peu plus d’un mois pas le passage du cyclone Chido.

The French department of Mayotte will be placed on red cyclone alert on Saturday evening, announced the Minister of Overseas Territories, Manuel Valls, with the authorities fearing the effects of the passage of Cyclone Dikeledi, whose trajectory could, according to forecasters, pass 75 km south of the archipelago devastated a little over a month ago by the passage of Cyclone Chido.

“The red alert will be triggered this evening. It is obviously the prefect who will make the decision in conjunction with us, but that will be the case. In any case, we will not be able to afford not to do it, given the situation, given the state of Mayotte after the passage of Cyclone Chido”, declared Manuel Valls on BFM.

The cyclone “will cross Madagascar today and lose power to transit about 75 kilometers from the southern tip of Mayotte, during the day on Sunday, at the severe tropical storm stage”, said the Mayotte prefecture in a statement published on its website.

Gusts of 120 km/hour

“Winds of 50 to 60 km/h on average are expected across the island and possibly more intense in the South, with gusts between 100 and 120 km/h. A deterioration in weather conditions is therefore expected from this Saturday evening until Monday morning: heavy stormy rainfall, strong gusts of wind and risk of marine submersion on the West and South coasts of the department.”

The latest toll from the passage of Cyclone Chido is at least 39 dead, 124 seriously injured and 4136 lightly injured.
