Many viewers had trouble watching the boxing match between Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk and Britain's Tyson Fury, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday night and broadcast worldwide via pay-per-view by DAZN. The company has promised to refund viewers who experienced technical issues in France.

Black screens, frozen images, and endlessly rotating loading logos: social media accounts poured in throughout the fight, in which Usyk retained his titles and defeated Fury once again, this time by unanimous decision. Meanwhile, some viewers were simply fighting to watch the fight.

“At first, the image froze every ten seconds. After that, it got better for a few minutes, and then a black screen for about three rounds. I had to restart everything, then it came back, but without the commentary…”, explains a user of the service.

To legally watch the most anticipated English boxing match of the year, you had to subscribe to the pay-per-view at 19.99 euros in France, offered by DAZN, with a trial period included.

“I paid 20 euros to watch a black screen”

“DAZN, I paid for this ? Clean up your servers if you can’t handle that many viewers!” ; “I have a black screen, I want a refund” ; “I paid 20 euros to watch a black screen, thank you DAZN”, could be read on X, where customers did not hide their frustration and massively demanded the refund of their subscription.

“We are sincerely sorry for the technical problem encountered”, DAZN communicated to AFP on Sunday evening. “All customers who request it will be reimbursed for the PPV (in France)”, announces the company whose parent company is based in London. “As a gesture of compensation, DAZN is also offering them a free month of subscription”, specifies the broadcaster.
