This is sad news that was announced this Tuesday, January 28. Catherine Laborde has died at the age of 73. The former iconic weather presenter suffered from Lewy body disease and it was in her house on the island of Yeu, in Vendée, that she breathed her last. In the columns of the ParisienA few hours later, Françoise Laborde, her sister, agreed to share some confidences. She notably spoke about Catherine Laborde's last months: “&At the end, she was in bed all the time, she didn't get up much anymore. She had lost a lot of weight, she really was a little bird”.
Françoise Laborde confided that she had taken advantage of every moment. “With Geneviève, we both gathered around her bed, we made videos, we took pictures, we said silly things… It was still joyful”, she declared. A moment in all simplicity but one that she will never forget. “There were her two daughters, Gabrielle and Pia, with their dad Jimmy. Her husband Thomas “was there too”, she said before continuing: “She wanted to die peacefully at home, in her house on the island of Yeu. We respected what she wanted”.

Her sister was affected and she noticed that the latter was “very tired” but her memory was intact. “It is such a difficult illness psychologically because we are aware of our own deterioration” , specifies Catherine Laborde's sister.
Aware that she could no longer continue her profession, Catherine Laborde made the decision to say goodbye to the viewers. An emotional sequence that has never been forgotten by viewers. “Catherine had the courage to leave while she was still able to say goodbye and to say it with elegance, which was nevertheless her trademark, said Françoise Laborde. Also according to her testimony, her sister “left before stumbling, knowing that the disease was irreversible”. A decision that was very difficult à accept but necessary for a person who wanted to leave a good image.
Catherine Laborde chose to withdraw from media life while she was still fit enough to do so. For her part, Françoise Laborde explains that, since her departure from television, her sister was “very diminished”. She had thus opted for the island of Yeu, where no one could come and bother her. “&In the end, she no longer wanted people to see her weakened as ça”, confides Françoise Laborde who concludes by declaring: “That's why I posted photos on Twitter where she's still happy and smiling”. Catherine Laborde wanted to leave an image of herself smiling and positive, as she's always been.
