The France Télévisions group lost one of its most emblematic faces this week. This Friday, January 10, 2025, AFP relayed sad news: the death of Jean-Luc Petitrenaud. The food critic passed away at the age of 74. presented the programs Carte postale gourmande and Les escapades de Petitrenaud on the channel France 5 for more than fifteen years.

According to information gathered by our colleagues, the food critic died “surrounded by his loved ones”. However, the cause of his death is not known. His children, Louise and Antonin Petitrenaud, “thank the people who loved him so much during these years”. He leaves behind a grieving family, but also a little corner of paradise in Barfleur, where he had taken up residence several years ago.

Although he was originally from Auvergne, Jean-Luc Petitrenaud had fallen in love with a small town in the Manche. It was in Barfleur that the passionate of the land had decided to live happy days. “24 years ago, a friend introduced me to Barfleur. I fell in love with it at first sight and bought a house”, he said in an interview granted to West France in August 2016.

He explained in the same paper: “I fell in love with this pure and clean side of the region“. He then expressed his desire to come “every weekend and enjoy the seasons” in this “place where you can cultivate your serenity”. “There are some who go to thalassotherapy, I come here. It's my rejuvenation cure”, added the man who made several generations of television viewers salivate.

Jean-Luc Petitrenaud never stopped praising the merits of Barfleur in the media. “We can talk about loyalty, I am proud to be loyal to the Cotentin and especially to Barfleur. These are places, this tip of the Cotentin where they (the inhabitants) do not necessarily know how to talk about themselves because they are too afraid of seeing people arrive”, he confided in the past, as reported by Ici.

The food journalist also cultivated a fervent passion for the Cotentin and the Val de Saire : “Whether you're in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue or Barfleur, I find that these two towns have beautiful identities, beautiful young seaside girls, who are camped there, each with her beauty and each with her pretension”. We don't know if he will be buried in his adopted town.
