The world of gastronomy is in mourning. This Friday, January 10, Jean-Luc Petitrenaud died at the age of 74 years old. The famous gastronome passed away “surrounded by his loved ones” his family said AFP, whichthanks “the people who loved him so much during these years”. The causes of his death have, however, not been revealed.

With his small round glasses, Jean-Luc Petitrenaud has long been a familiar face to France 5 television viewers 5. Indeed, after having presented Carte Postale Gourmande for six years, the culinary journalist had hosted Les Escapades de Petitrenaud from 2006. However, the broadcast of this magazine had been stopped dead in 2018, putting an end to the gastronome's TV career.

Jean-Luc Petitrenaud fired from France 5 overnight

Indeed, in 2018, France 5 had broadcast the very last issue of Les Escapades de Petitrenaud, removing the program from its schedule. The show had no longer been broadcast since April 1st. JeanLuc Petitrenaud, who had given up his place to Carinne Teyssandier at the beginning of the season in 2017 for personal reasons, had then confirmed that he would not be his return.

“I will not return to the airwaves, because the show is ending definitively at the end of March. It is not my doing but a requirement of France 5 which wants to make drastic savings, to the detriment of its assets”, he had declared to Télé Star, preferring to devote himself to writing.

After his show Les Escapades de Petitrenaud was canceled, the host had ranted against the methods of France 5. On March 14, 2018, the food critic was the guest by Morandini Live on CNews to talk about the end of his show. The journalist did not hide his disappointment and showed himself to be upset with the channel.

“I never had the channel on the phone,” Jean-Luc Petitrenaud had revealed. The journalist had regretted the attitude of the channel's management towards him. “Since my absence from the show, I have never had the channel on the phone. I learned from the production that the show was stopped”, he was annoyed, without mincing his words. A blow to his career on the small screen.
