The famous cook and television host Maïté passed away on the night of December 20 to 21, 2024, at the age of 86. Since the announcement of her death, tributes have been pouring in to pay tribute to the memory of this well-known figure of French gastronomy.

Marie-Thérèse Ordonez, her real name, spent her final days in the EHPAD in Rion-des-Landes, the town where she was born on June 2, 1938. This is also where that her funeral will take place on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in the Saint-Barthélemy church, as revealed by the website actu.fr. A choice that is hardly surprising for someone who has always been very attached to her Landes roots.

The President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron thus saluted the memory of the one who embodied, according to him, the art of being French: “Ambassador of our traditional cuisine, popular icon, source of inspiration for so many families, Maïté, who embodied so well the art of being French, is no more. I extend my condolences to her family, her loved ones and to all those who enjoyed listening to her.”
The host Julien Courbet, who rubbed shoulders with Maïté on France 3 Aquitaine, also wanted to pay tribute to him: “I think this evening of Maïté, when I arrived on France 3 Aquitaine it was already well established with its musketeer cuisine and its famous Landes hamburger. When we showed her a fast food restaurant she would scream oh my god .. She was a very nice woman #maite“.
If Maïté brought joy to French homes thanks to her cooking shows full of good humor, her personal life has unfortunately been marked by several dramas. In 2013, she lost her only son Serge, taken away by cancer. A painful mourning that had pushed her to withdraw from public life.
Seven years later, in 2020, it was her husband nicknamed Pierrot who died in turn. Despite these trials, Maïté was able to count on the support of her two granddaughters, Camille and Perrine. The first had also presented herself to the show Objectif Top Chef in 2018. A few days before her death, the whole family gathered to celebrate the chef's 86th birthday, as Camille confided: “A few days ago, we were all together for her birthday, we had a great day. That's what matters to my grandmother.” No doubt her loved ones will be there to say a final goodbye to her at her funeral in Rion-des-Landes.
