DeepL doesn’t have as many users as Google Translate. But for a while now, it has been claiming better quality translations than the Mountain View firm’s tool. And in July, it announced a new generation of large language model that would surpass the models of Google Translate, GPT-4 and Microsoft. In fact, translations made with Google Translate would require twice as many corrections, compared to those generated by DeepL. And those of GPT-4 would require three times as many corrections. And this week, the German startup is taking a new step forward by offering a new real-time translation service.
In a blog post, the startup presents its new product called DeepL Voice, which is an instant translator for spoken conversations and video conferences. “DeepL Voice offers you real-time translation solutions that have been carefully developed using DeepL’s extensive expertise in language translations and artificial intelligence models, applied and optimized for real-time applications,” the company says.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000However, unlike DeepL’s text translation, real-time translation targets businesses and not the general public. Moreover, the pricing of this new service is not revealed on the startup’s website. But in any case, by announcing its instant translation service, DeepL is taking another important step. “DeepL is known for its ability to translate texts. 50% of Fortune 500 companies can attest to our expertise in this field. But real-time speech translation is a whole different story. You have to deal with incomplete typing, pronunciation issues, latency and more, which can lead to inaccurate translations and even more confusion in meetings,” the startup explains.
In any case, DeepL is today one of the most promising European startups in the field of artificial intelligence. And its models specialized in translation are of interest to many investors. In 2023, the company raised $100 million, which brought its valuation to $1 billion. And in May 2024, another round of €300 million brought DeepL’s valuation to $2 billion.
