In the wake of storm Herminia, depression Ivo will cause bad weather in France. Less powerful, but closer to mainland France, it will arrive on January 28, 2025 and should disrupt the weather for a few days.

While storm Herminia is still wreaking havoc on the British Isles and in northern France, its little sister, Ivo, is arriving in mainland France. This depression coming from the Atlantic will cause significant bad weather in the coming days. Here's an update.

In the wake of Herminia

“The depression Ivo, which will follow the Atlantic coast this Wednesday, is still 2,000 km off the French coast”, explains Météo France in its latest bulletin. Although it is still far from mainland France on Tuesday, the situation is expected to deteriorate in the coming hours.

“On Wednesday, a new active disturbance will arrive in the northwest of mainland France”, warned the site on Monday. In particular, it announced significant rainfall and gusts of wind: “The totals could reach 15 to 30 mm, or even 40 mm in places, from Brittany to Lower Normandy and Vendée, in a context of already saturated soil. In the wake of the depression near Brittany, the winds will still blow strongly on the Atlantic coast.”

Evolution of the situation

Furthermore, on the New Aquitaine side, strong electrical activity could develop. “We could hear thunder rumbling locally under active showers which then shift towards Occitanie”, warns the site meteorological.

“This depression should slide towards the southwest, with some more precipitation in its wake”, explains Météo France. From Thursday, it is very likely that the weather will deteriorate with episodes of rain and wind, or even storms, significant.

Especially since “Mediterranean upwellings could give a good watering in Provence”. According to La Chaîne météo, the situation should gradually calm down from Thursday across the country.

Thanks to the Azores high pressure, atmospheric pressure will finally be able to rise, allowing for drier weather. On the other hand, with the departure of the rain, there will be a milder one. This dry weather will be accompanied by a drop in temperatures.
