The new car market is down 3.2% in 2024, according to figures published by the Automotive Platform (PFA). The causes ?: Europe for Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault. Unsurprisingly, sales of thermal cars continue to fall, with gasoline now representing only 29.5% of all transactions and diesel only 7.3%. While the market share of hybrid cars is increasing significantly, going from 33.5% to 42.8% in one year, that of electric vehicles is stagnating at 16.9%. In terms of volume, fewer electric cars were sold in 2024 (291,143) than in 2023 (298,525). Note that sales of hydrogen or natural gas (NGV) vehicles remain confidential.

Registrations of new electric cars in France fell in 2024 with 1.72 million cars last year, the market is still very far from the 2.2 million of 2019.
