Donald Trump's program: immigration, economy, environment… His main measures

Spread the love

Based on strong protectionism and drastic immigration control, discover Donald Trump's program for this 2024 American presidential election.

Leading in the Swing states, these key states in the American election, but narrowly ahead nationally, Donald Trump intends to run for a second term in the White House and oust the Democratic Party on November 5. In an attempt to retain Republican voters who are committed to his cause and convince voters who are still undecided, the former president of the United States is banking on a program that is clearly identified with the American conservative right. Find the latest polls and trends here.

Whether on the economic front or on the subject of immigration, no surprise, Donald Trump bases his program on a hard line giving ultimate priority to Americans. He thus promised to work towards the relocation of companies and industries to the United States and to launch “the largest expulsion operation” of migrants in history. A point of his program, rather unnoticed, also promises to expel certain people from the United States based on their political color. Here are five key points of Donald Trump's program, from the economy to the environment and the international context.

Economy: lower taxes and development of cryptocurrencies

On September 5, in New York, Donald Trump said he wanted to end “communism.” “Send comrade Harris home to California.” A foretaste of his program, which is, to say the least, blunt and uncompromising. On the economic front, the real estate magnate is considering customs duties of “more than 10%” on all imports, to finance a “large tax cut for the middle class, the upper class, the lower class, the business class,” he explains. At the same time, he intends to make the United States “the world capital of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies”.

International: what impact on France and the European Union?

Since the US Foreign Trade Act of 1974, the US President has been able to impose quotas and customs tariffs up to 15% higher for 150 days on countries that have significant surpluses in their balance of payments with the United States. He could therefore go further than the 10% announced until then. Enough to cause a real economic and trade war between the USA and the EU. However, this scenario still appears unlikely, particularly since the EU remains the United States' largest trading partner.

Environment: end of regulations and oil in abundance

Regarding the environment, the former president of the United States could be tempted to lift all possible regulations if he were to gain access to the White House. “For each new regulation, we will eliminate at least 10 old laws, and frankly we will have no trouble doing it,” he assured at the beginning of September. “I will quickly put an end to the great green scam,” he has already said. promised in the event of a second term. “We are going to drill (for oil) like crazy” he announced to his supporters, in order to “very quickly lower energy prices”.

Immigration: “the largest expulsion operation” of migrants

On the subject of immigration, Donald Trump's program has the merit of being clear, he wants to launch “the largest expulsion operation” of migrants as soon as he is elected if he were to join the White House. The American billionaire is also considering “using the army” to achieve its purposes in order to expel migrants and then open new detention camps. Automatic birthright citizenship will also be revoked if Donald Trump is elected, “for children born to irregular migrants.”

A law to keep out of America “foreign communists, Marxists and socialists”

When diving into the Republican candidate's program, one point seems to stand out in particular, it is point number 4, “strict control”, of the second chapter “seal the border and stop the invasion of migrants”. Donald Trump plans, as indicated black and white in his program, to use “existing federal law to keep out of America foreign communists, Marxists and socialists who hate Christians.”

Asked on Fox News on Sunday, November 13, Donald Trump said that “the National Guard”, or even “military forces if necessary”, should be sent against an “enemy within”, whom he did not name, after a question from the channel about possible “agitators” during the election. The latter assured wanting to suppress “really bad people (…) crazy people, far-left lunatics”. The day before, in California, he notably attacked a “elected member of the State House of Representatives, Adam Schiff, a “scumbag” and a “sick”, among the “worst enemies from within”.

Abortion: Trump cultivates ambiguityé

Donald Trump maintains the vagueness concerning the future of abortions in the country. He does not position himself on the line of the American religious right, according to which it would be necessary to promise an outright ban on abortion throughout the country thanks to a federal law. “You have to follow your soul and conscience on this issue, but don't forget that you also have to win elections,” he said. According to Franceinfo, the Republican is trying to present himself as a defender of “reproductive rights,” an adjustment from his previous mandate.
