Between the metro ticket at €4 each, and the risk of strikes, the 2024 Olympics already promise to be hell, particularly for local residents who in certain neighborhoods cannot will no longer be able to travel freely from July 26, 2024 without showing a QR Code.

These neighborhoods are in fact all part of what the Ministry of the Interior has called the 'SILT perimeter'. We already knew that certain parts of the capital, including “the buildings along the Seine, since these buildings provide visibility on the parade” , as the Phonandroid site reminds us.

Paris will de facto be divided into three

This week, Place Beauvau announces the opening of a counter to allow local residents to obtain the precious sesame – as well as publishing a precise map of the areas concerned. Needless to say, many Parisians should look grim. Because the capital will de facto be divided into three.

The SILT perimeter, supposed to help ensure security, particularly against terrorism, roughly runs along both banks of the Seine – it is extended by a much larger area in which traffic will be prohibited unless exempted. Thus, the west of Paris will be temporarily cut off from the north east and south of the city.

The SILT will be put in place one week before the ceremony. #8217;opening. Which should, we imagine, allow residents to get used to these restrictive measures. To make matters worse, many metro stations will be closed and the tram will also be impacted – the complete list of disruptions is available on the website of the Ministry of Transport.

Who will actually be entitled to the famous QR code to circulate “normally” in Paris ?

The QR Code allowing you to circulate or cross the SILT perimeter is intended for local residents, but also for people who may need to enter these areas as part of their professional activity and (AirBnB fans should be at passage a little relieved) the visitors.

In fact it is above all a question for the Ministry of the Interior of knowing well all the people who go to its areas, in order to limit the terrorist and security risk as much as possible and facilitate the work of law enforcement. The window to obtain the sesame will be open from May 10, 2024.

Applicants can contact directly a dedicated platform launched for the sesame; occasion (its address will be specified in the coming weeks). It will also be possible to request one from a district town hall if necessary. One thing is certain in any case: during the games, the life of Parisians will be very “sporty”.

  • The Ministry of the Interior unveils a card in which a QR Code will be compulsory for circulation in a period running from one week before the games until ;#8217;at the end of Olympic activities.
  • Requests for this QR Code will be open from May 10, 2024.
  • Fortunately, you don't necessarily have to be a local resident to be able to obtain the precious sesame.
