After a brief hiatus, TikTok is back in the United States for several months following a decree issued by Donald Trump. That said, the Google and Apple app stores have still not restored the Chinese social network. In other words, if users have uninstalled the app from their phones and want to reinstall it, it is no longer possible.
Incredible prices
As always in such cases, some opportunistic sellers try to take advantage of it. Our colleagues at Les Échos have noted that the prices of smartphones running Android or iOS are reaching incredible levels on certain sites, provided they have already installed TikTok. Our By peeling the ads on eBay, but also Back Market, Mercari, or even Facebook Marketplace and their verdict is final.
They found iPhone 13s and 15s selling for almost €50,000, while another seller was offering an iPhone 13 Pro Max 128 GB Gold with TikTok installed and a dozen other ByteDance apps for the modest sum of… €345,000!
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000It seems difficult to imagine that anyone would agree to pay such a price, but these ads, which are widely viewed, illustrate the importance of the platform in the United States, which currently has 170 million users. It would not be surprising if some people ended up spending irrational amounts of money due to lack of access, if the application is not quickly reinstalled on the App Store or Google PlayStore.
When will TikTok return to the app stores ?
We do not have any specific information on this subject. Donald Trump, for his part, has mentioned the creation of a joint venture where American investors would hold 50% of the US branch of the service: “They will have something that is actually more valuable because they have the ultimate partner, and the United States will make it very interesting for them in terms of authorizations and everything else”, he asserted.
Among the potential investors, we find supporters of the new president and in particular Elon Musk, but also the co-founder of Oracle, Larry Ellison. Until a solution is found, this market of resourcefulness is likely to continue to prosper.
What to remember:
- The TikTok app is no longer available on the Google and Apple stores in the United States
- Smart people are taking advantage of this to sell their smartphones with the app already installed for a high price
- We don't know when TikTok will be back on these spaces
