Eighteen months in prison for a drunken homeless man who threatened to kill his ex-partner in Agde

The 43-year-old man, homeless, was arrested while driving without a license and under the influence of alcohol. This Thursday, December 26, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

On Thursday, December 26, the Béziers Criminal Court tried a 43-year-old man of no fixed abode in immediate appearance for death threats against his ex-partner, but also for: violence while intoxicated, rebellion, insult and death threats against persons in authority, repeat driving under the influence of alcohol, driving despite the cancellation of his driving license and without insurance. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison with continued detention, in addition to the confiscation of his vehicle, the cancellation of his driving license, and the bans on contacting his ex-partner and staying in the Hérault department for 3 years, said public prosecutor Raphaël Balland.

He had been arrested on the night of December 23, in Agde, by police officers from the Agde police station, in his vehicle, after he had threatened his ex-partner in front of her home and had hit a friend of the couple in the face. The accused had resisted his arrest and had insulted and threatened the police officers throughout the journey to the police station where he had been tested with 1 mg of alcohol per liter of exhaled air, the equivalent of 2 grams in his blood. He had admitted to all the facts during his police custody and had admitted to having an addiction problem with alcohol and narcotics.

This man, already convicted 12 times between 2000 and 2023, had been presented to the Béziers public prosecutor's office on December 24 and placed in pre-trial detention by the judge of liberties and detention.
