Elections to the Gard Chamber of Agriculture: the FDSEA, the JA, the cooperation and the independent winegrowers present "a common union list"

Candidates for the Gard Chamber of Agriculture elections on the FDSEA-JA-Coopération-Vignerons indépendants list have rolled out their roadmap. Midi Libre – C.L.

The FDSEA, the JA, the cooperation and the independent winegrowers are proposing, as they did six years ago, a joint list for the elections to the Gard Chamber of Agriculture which will take place at the beginning of the year. The outgoing president, Magali Saumade, is seeking a second term.

Young Farmers, the FDSEA, the agricultural cooperation and independent winegrowers presented a joint list on Tuesday, December 17 at the former Cave de Laudun, for the elections to the Gard Chamber of Agriculture. They will be held from January 15 to 31 with a campaign scheduled to begin on January 8. The joint list claims to be “apolitical” and is committed to “efficient and profitable agriculture, attractive and sustainable, attentive to society and prepared for changes.” For David Sève, president of the FDSEA of Gard, this union is “a real satisfaction” . “We managed to establish a common program with people from the entire department and all sectors.” “We are very happy to have found this agreement and to leave hand in hand for the next six years if we are elected” , adds Romain Angelras, president of the JA du Gard.

“We are here to carry out structuring projects”

Half of the candidates on the list for college 1 are running for a second term. “Our union in a time as complicated as the one we are currently experiencing is fundamental, underlines Magali Saumade, outgoing president and head of the list among the twenty candidates for college 1. The term we are completing was complex because of the health and economic crises but also because of the chaotic situation we are currently experiencing at the highest level of the State”. The breeder from Saint-Laurent d’Aigouze promises, if elected, “a mandate on a par with the one we have just experienced, if not more”. “We are here to carry out structuring projects in the territory which has more than 5,000 farms. Until now, the Chambers had to limit themselves to agriculture. Today, the Chambers must also provide support on the economic aspect in collaboration with the sectors.”

During the conference, the candidates of the joint list presented their roadmap for the next six years with “challenges” focused on income, climate change and the energy transition. “We have a major irrigation project in the Côte du Rhône region,” announces Romain Angelras. . It's a very structuring project for our region and especially for us young people if we want to ensure the sustainability of our farms and our installations.”.

Dates, ballot, colleges… how to use elections

Elections to the Chamber of Agriculture take place every six years and are held in one round. Votes are cast by post or electronically from January 15 to 31. The results will be announced on February 8. The Gard Chamber of Agriculture is made up of “five individual colleges” and representatives of the five group colleges. College 1 of farm managers and similar is the largest with 18 seats to be filled (approximately 5,000 voters). The list that comes out on top obtains the majority of seats. The remaining ones are distributed among all the lists, proportionally to the results. During the last mandate, the FDSEA-JA union had obtained 14 seats in college 1. "This year, we have the ambition to win them all", announces Magali Saumade.
