In the minority in the outgoing composition of the Gard Chamber of Agriculture, with two representatives, the Peasant Confederation has unveiled its list for the elections of the new members of the consular chamber. From this Wednesday, January 15, and until the end of the month, farmers and professionals in the sector are invited to vote by mail to elect their representatives.
Equal and deliberately rejuvenated, with “an average age of 42 years” according to its members, the union's list thus aims to show “the change of generations to come” in the profession.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000In a current situation marked by agricultural demonstrations, the Gard branch of the union follows the national philosophy of the movement which can be summed up as “three axes” major according to the words of Didier Marion, departmental spokesperson. “Farmers must first find income, so as not to be dependent on speculation, in order to ensure that farmers receive a minimum market price that covers their work and their social security contributions.” Market regulation, as well as the development of local agriculture and support for short supply chains, “responding to the needs of citizens”, form the other two directives.
Added to this is opposition to the artificialization of soils that reduces exploitable agricultural areas, the maintenance of environmental requirements and support for farmers seeking to set up. “Many young people are struggling to set up while retiring farmers sell their land to large neighboring farms”, says Emmanuelle Philip, a farmer in Aigaliers. Our vision would be to divide these farms into small islands to facilitate the development of agriculture that respects the “right to food”.
The union thus wants to stand up to the FDSEA of Gard, the majority in the department, by pointing out, in their eyes, aberrations. “We need to change the paradigm, the model that has been in place for decades. In Gard, we have farmers who vote for the FNSEA, then who go to demonstrate in the street, only to finally realize that the model they are fighting against is the one they voted for.”
“Many neighbors tell me they want to get out of this system”, adds Simon Le Berre, a winegrower in Martignargues. “But for lack of better information, they turned to the majority union, which is oriented towards export market shares, which causes too low margins and the fall in the number of farmers in France.”
