We were finally losing hope, but it is confirmed, the price of electricity will indeed decrease in France from February. Unfortunately, if this decrease concerns the majority of households, some customers will not be able to benefit from it. Explanations.
Who will benefit from the price decrease ?
Starting next month, the 14% reduction in the regulated sales tariff (TRV) for electricity will affect 22.4 million households and businesses, or 56% of subscribers. This would represent a gain of around 200 euros per year for an average household. For the latter, this will therefore represent a significant gain after several years marked by inflation in terms of energy.
The reasons for this price reduction do not have to be looked for far. Indeed, the price of a megawatt hour has literally collapsed in recent months, going from 1,000 euros at the height of the crisis to around 70 euros today.
In this context, the increase in the domestic tax on final electricity consumption (TICFE), which will go from 22 euros to 33.70 euros per megawatt hour in February, is almost painless, provided of course that you are affected by the price reduction.

In detail, the customers who will benefit from this discount are those who have opted for EDF's regulated tariff or an offer indexed to this tariff. For all those who have chosen a market offer from an alternative supplier, the situation is much more confusing.
Worse, in some cases, their bill could even increase, as our colleagues at rightly point outJournal du Geek. To protect yourself, you can consult your contract and compare the different offers available on the market. Please note that it is possible to opt for a regulated rate subscription at any time by contacting EDF customer service.

What to remember :
- In February, the price of electricity will drop by 14% for French people who have signed a contract at the regulated EDF rate or an offer indexed to this rate
- It is much less clear for other market offers and some could even increase
- It is advisable to compare prices and, if necessary, return to this more advantageous regulated rate
