President of Soroptimist Nîmes for two years, she is giving up her position, satisfied with the missions accomplished. And is returning for a two-year term at the national office of the NGO.

Remind us what Soroptimist's missions are ?

Created in France 100 years ago by Suzanne Noël, Soroptimist is a network of women serving women around five essential missions: education, health, the fight against violence against women, empowerment and leadership, and the environment.

You have been president in Nîmes since January 2023. What memories do you have of this commitment ?

It was difficult but I am very proud to have done it. I am 28 years old, and I am the youngest president of this NGO which has 100 clubs in France and 2030 members. What motivated me in this mission: leadership and carrying out concrete and useful actions. The retirees were a little worried at first to see me as president. My greatest reward is that they thanked me for what I brought to the club and to their lives too.

You have also just received a trophy from the City ?

200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000

Yes, a nice surprise that I didn't expect. This trophy for community involvement completes my presidency. From now on, our club is well identified by the institutions and taken into consideration.

What is your assessment of your presidency? ?

We set up the exhibition Talents de femmes which attracted 1,200 entries, organized the congress of the presidents of French clubs, previewed the film “Julie se tait” on sexual violence in sport, and supported several actions: the trip of 4 young disabled girls to the Paralympic Games in Paris, cushions for the Diane network, the purchase of equipment for a young fencer who was participating in the Olympic Games. Each year, Soroptimist commits between €5,000 and €8,000 in aid.

Your personal story is closely linked to your commitment. Why do young women join Soroptimist?

My mother Anne-Laure Rousson was a founding member of the Nîmes club in 2016. In 2015, I was diagnosed with an orphan blood disease. Coma, resuscitation, heavy treatments… After difficult years, I told myself “You only have one life, you're going to live it to the fullest”. I want a life of commitment. And the Soroptimist cause for women suits me. Especially since throughout my childhood, my adoptive mother repeated to me that independence is essential. She told me if you have a roof over your head, a job and a car, you are free.

Your adoption also echoes your commitment ?

Absolutely. I am very committed to the fight against violence against women. I was adopted in Polynesia, my mother already had nine children, she was beaten… this cause is particularly close to my heart. I have five nieces and nephews, I never stop talking to them about consent!

You are leaving the Nîmes presidency but remain more committed than ever ?

Yes, I am leaving for a two-year term at the national office, as deputy program director. I want to make the fight against violence a priority. My mission will be to develop Soroptimist clubs in France… and to rejuvenate them. Currently, the average age is around 65-70 years old.

What qualities do you need to join Soroptimist ?

Empathy, kindness, respect, energy, not being afraid and having a little time for a meeting per month. Each application is studied by our office before being validated.

On January 1, 2025, Mickaëlle Cazorla, 39, will take over the presidency of the Nîmes club for two years. Mother of a little girl, she is a coordinator in a dental center. I subscribe to read the rest
