Elisabeth Jaune anime le groupe Les Écologistes dans la Vallée et le Lodévois. JM – JM
A new local group “The Ecologists” has been created in Cœur d'Hérault, which now has two. Meeting with Elisabeth Jaune, Group Representative in Vallée de l'Hérault/Lodévois Larzac.
During the legislative elections in June, you supported Sébastien Rome (LFI) as part of the New Popular Front. Why create a new local group “The Ecologists” in Cœur d'Hérault ?
We believe that the mobilisation around these early elections, and the fear of the inhabitants of seeing the RN win, generated a renewed interest and political commitment. Citizens mobilised a lot around the NFP and the legitimate candidate that Sébastien Rome was at that time. We all had repercussions in terms of membership. For us, this was also played out on two pillars: a reform of the party by changing its name (EELV became Les écologistes) but also by changing the method of membership. Today, you can be a member or a sympathiser. Until now, we had a local group Cœur d’Hérault which brought together the three comcoms. We found ourselves numerous enough to split the local groups: a group on the Clermontais and the Vallée de l’Hérault-Lodévois and Larzac group (56 municipalities) of which I am the secretary.
What are your projects?
We held a constituent general assembly on December 21 and our first local group meeting on January 7. We will hold one every first Tuesday of the month (in Ceyras) to allow interested people to come and join us. In terms of actions, we would like to set up a wine consultation by inviting the environmentalist MP for Charentes Maritimes, Benoit Biteau, who is an agricultural engineer and farmer. He became politically involved when he met José Bové. He made a journey from conventional to agroecology and proved that sustainable agriculture can be viable and profitable.
The idea would also be to meet winegrowers, to discuss practices…
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000Exactly. We would like to listen to them and see what a political party, the Greens in this case, can bring them. Winegrowers and farmers often tend to think that we are not with them, which is completely false. We are not opposed to farmers, but we are against pesticide lobbying and the fact that it has such an impact on the soil. Traces of it can be found in food, water and soil. This misunderstanding needs to be clarified. The best way to do this, I think, is to organise a consultation, not by passing judgement on practices or giving injunctions, but by listening. It is about collecting the issues and grievances in order to try to make proposals that would become laws, subsidies or aid, to support them in a transition that, if this continues, will have to be done with forceps. For example, winegrowers, even by deploying a huge number of products or technical means, will not be able to cope with what is happening: that is to say a drop in production and profitability. They are already faced with this. Diversification must be supported. It is a whole sector of the economy that needs to be rethought and perhaps jobs created. It is really possible to combine ecology, agriculture and job development.
Do you also work on more national subjects related to ecology? ?
To win battles, we also need to bring people to us. We need to win town halls. The municipal elections are coming up… We are focusing on local issues because we have realised that in the Heart of Hérault, a large population has an ecological sensibility but that this is not reflected in the votes. We need all the political ecological forces to influence the vision of territorial expansion as politicians are currently exercising on the Comcoms of the Valley and Clermontais. They tend to try to align their development model with that of the Montpellier Metropolis with a huge number of cars, increased urbanisation, and the creation of shopping centres. For us, this is an obsolete vision. We can continue to welcome people but we need to rethink the models. We cannot continue to over-concrete and artificialise the soil. We also need to conserve arable land to produce food… We need to develop local agriculture and market gardening. We need to rethink our development. This is one of the things that are being considered at the Codev level…
You live in Plaissan, do you plan to run there?
I would have had the ambition to create a municipal citizens' list there but I find that the mayor of Plaissan, Béatrice Fernando, leads a left-wing policy. We are in the same movement, with the NFP, with Sébastien Rome. We are not in the same parties but I do not see the point in competing with the work of Béatrice Fernando at the moment. I pay tribute to her: she created a health center, a municipal mutual insurance company, she installed photovoltaic panels on the roofs of the school. She was present against the pension reform… She also leads an inclusive policy in relation to the inhabitants without losing the social dimension. And, what is very important is that she created a PÉAN (Périmètres de protection des espaces agricoles et naturels) to protect the agricultural lands of Plaissan. She really made sure to be able to conserve nature and, perhaps, in the decades to come, consider producing other forms of culture to gain food sovereignty.
Do you think you will run in another municipality? ?
No, but I would not be opposed to collaborating in a team with the mayor of Plaissan. I do not see myself running in a village other than mine, I do not have this motivation. But, at the level of our members, in Cœur d'Hérault, I think that people will probably put together lists but not necessarily under the banner of the Ecologists.
Themes: the group also works on mobility. And advocates in particular in favor of the railway. I subscribe to read the rest
