Recently, Elon Musk briefly changed his name on the social network X to “Kekius Maximus”. According to the BBC’s explanation, “Kekius” appears to be a Latinization of “kek,” a phrase used in place of “lol” among gamers, and which can be associated with the far right. “Maximus” appears to come from the Gladiator character Maximus Decimus Meridius. The Tesla boss also changed his profile picture to Pepe the Frog wearing a Roman military uniform and holding a video game controller.

Crypto Value Soars

Before this username change, Musk wrote on his profile:“Kekius Maximus will soon reach level 80 in hardcore PoE”. PoE is short for “Path of Exile 2,” the title of a video game that Tesla’s boss is said to be a player of. But, in any case, the name change on X has caused the value of a cryptocurrency called Kekius Maximus to soar. According to the Coingecko website, it was worth $0.01 on December 31, before soaring to a maximum of $0.38 on January 1.

Since then, Elon Musk has changed his name and profile picture again. And the value of the Kekius Maximus memecoin has dropped sharply. At the time of writing, it is worth $0.13. According to Coingecko, this still corresponds to an increase of 9944.1%, compared to its value 7 days ago.

In any case, this is not the first time that Elon Musk has had an influence on the value of a cryptocurrency.

  • Elon Musk briefly changed his name on the social network X to “Kekius Maximus” and changed profile picture
  • This caused the value of a crypto to rise (and then fall)
  • However, this crypto still has an increased value compared to its value 7 days ago
