If many French people, and more specifically Parisians, have trouble with Emily in Paris, it must be acknowledged that the series is a huge success with Netflix subscribers. With each new season, Emily Cooper comfortably settles into the top of the most-watched series on the video streaming platform for several weeks.

Yes, but after forty (!) episodes in the French capital, Emily is leaving and intends to spend the fifth season of the series in Italy. Except that the series is called Emily in Paris, not Emily in Rome. For Emmanuel Macron, this absolutely must be remedied.

The President of the French Republic, a fan of Emily in Paris ?

Whether we like it or not, Emily in Parisis now part of French cultural heritage. Cocorico! Many tourists who come to discover the capital of France have been influenced by the fantasized Paris depicted in the Netflix series. In the same way, a multitude of Anglo-Saxons or Americans would like to move to Paris because of (or thanks to) Emily Cooper. As a reminder, the series follows a young American woman who moves to Paris to pursue her career in a marketing agency.

During season 4, just released on Netflix, viewers were even surprised to see Brigitte Macron, the first lady, briefly appear. In Emmanuel Macron's eyes, Emily in Paris is inevitably a way to promote Paris, and France, internationally.

“I think it’s good for France’s image. Emily in Paris is very positive in terms of attractiveness for the country. For me, it’s an excellent initiative,” he explained to the American media outlet Variety during a recent interview. It was also an opportunity for him to talk about his wife’s cameo, which he says he’s proud of.

When Variety reminded him that season 5 of Emily in Paris would take place in Italy, the President of the French Republic seemed determined to remedy the situation. “We’re going to fight hard. And they will be asked to stay in Paris! Emily in Paris in Rome makes no sense” he explained. Enough to delight fans of the Netflix series ?

  • For Emmanuel Macron, Emily in Parisis a positive series for the image of France
  • Season 5 taking place in Italy does not make sense in the eyes of the President of the French Republic
  • He declared that he wanted to “fight” for Emily to return to the French capital
