The collapse of the buildings had resulted in the death of 8 people in November 2018. This Thursday, sentences ranging from 2 to 5 years in prison, some of which were suspended, were requested as part of the trial of the collapses on rue d'Aubagne, reports France Bleu. Out of sixteen defendants, fourteen are concerned.

Prison sentences requested

The trial opened on November 7 in Marseille. It was therefore after several weeks of hearings that the requisitions were pronounced by the public prosecutors Nicolas Bessonne and Michel Sastre. The most important ones target Julien Ruas, former deputy mayor of Marseille, and Xavier Cachard, former vice-president of the regional council and co-owner of a dwelling on rue d’Aubagne. Three years in prison have been requested against the two men, along with a €45,000 fine and a €150,000 fine.

The collapses owe nothing to fate, nor to chance and even less to the rain!” declared Nicolas Bessonne who specified that the “requisitions will be firm”. According to Michel Sastre, “there was no fallacy, everyone knew what they were doing.”
