He is one of the most versatile journalists in the French media landscape. It is for Closer that journalist Jean-Baptiste Marteau returned not only to his career, but also to his life as a parent and more precisely to the mother of his daughter.

Born in 1983, Jean-Baptiste Marteau is one of the most versatile journalists in the French media landscape. Political reporting, news anchor or even the Olympic Games, the journalist does not limit himself. Well-known to the general public, he confided in a more intimate aspect of his family life during an exclusive interview granted to Closer, which you will be able to discover in full on December 27.
Far from the cameras and the excitement of TV sets, Jean-Baptiste Marteau has slightly lifted the veil on a subject that closely affects his private life: the mother of his daughter, Colette. Because if the subject seems easy to approach for some, it is not necessarily the case for everyone. Indeed, in 2018, the journalist publicly announced, via a Tweet, his homosexuality. And to become a father, Jean-Baptiste Marteau chose a very controversial solution: to call on a surrogate mother.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000To become parents, the journalist and her ex-husband, Bruno Loup, decided to call on an American surrogate mother. While in France, surrogacy (gestational surrogacy) remains prohibited, in the United States, it is a booming market, particularly for same-sex families. In 2020, only 32% of surrogate mothers were willing to work with same-sex families, compared to 75% in 2023. A lucrative market that can bring in at least $30,000 to a surrogate mother.
So when our journalist asked Jean-Baptiste Marteau if he was still in contact with the woman who gave life to his daughter, all possibilities were possible. However, the journalist offered an answer that was at least interesting, and especially surprising. “We regularly send her videos and photos. She is an incredible woman, who shows incredible generosity and who breaks down all prejudices“, he explained.
And to break down prejudices, this woman, who accepted to carry for nine months and give life to little Colette, breaks a lot. “She is a believer, a practicing woman and serves as chief of the municipal police in North Carolina, a very conservative state“, Jean-Baptiste Marteau notably pointed out. Against all expectations, not only does this woman work in a predominantly male profession, but she also comes from a state that is very attached to traditional values.
Despite the distance that separates them, Jean-Baptiste Marteau also seems to want to do everything so that a bond between Colette and her surrogate mother can exist. Moreover, the young father has clearly never wanted to hide the truth from his daughter. “She knows how much she was wanted and how she came to be in the world“, he confided.
