When will OpenAI release the successor to GPT-4 ? Recently, publications by Sam Altman, the head of OpenAI, have suggested that the presentation of the next AI model (which could be called GPT-5) could happen soon. As he indicates, ChatGPT will soon celebrate its second anniversary. And by the way, the OpenAI boss already posted another message on X that seemed to be a teaser for Orion, which is the code name for the new model.

Information denied by Sam Altman

In addition, sources have reportedly told our colleagues at The Verge that OpenAI plans to release this Orion model in December. The media's sources had also indicated that OpenAI would offer this artificial intelligence model to businesses, initially. And the latter has also reportedly learned that Orion could be integrated into Microsoft's Azure service as early as November.

But, as usual, we remind you that information should be considered with caution until it has been officially confirmed. And in this case, The Verge's information was denied by Sam Altman, in a reaction on X. In response to the article, the head of OpenAI indicated that it is “fake news” out of control.

An ultra-powerful AI model ?

In any case, the next OpenAI model, which will succeed GPT-4 is highly anticipated. For the moment, we have few technical details. However, according to the first information, it should be a clear evolution compared to GPT-4 and GPT-3. Indeed, the new AI could be 100 times more powerful than GPT-4, according to sources. But here too, caution is required for the moment.

In any case, the successor to GPT-4 should allow OpenAI to strengthen its position as a leader in the field of generative artificial intelligence, at a time when models comparable to those of ChatGPT are increasingly numerous.

  • An article from The Verge mentioned the possible release of the next OpenAI model in December
  • But this information was denied by Sam Altman, who indicates that it is “fake news” out of control
  • The next model, which will succeed GPT-4, is in any case highly anticipated, since it should bring important developments
