About twenty farmers from the Rural Coordination 48 met at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the roundabout at the entrance to Mende, near the new viaduct.
They did not come empty-handed, but brought a fir tree in a trailer, a mini-excavator, and a bucket. Amidst a few honks of support, the farmers planted their symbolic tree and hung decorations made by them.
Gifts that “don't please”
Jean-Luc Boulet, co-president of the Rural Coordination 48, explains: “At the foot of this tree, we are going to put the gifts that the farmers will receive for the year 2025. And these gifts are not going to please.“
These gifts are mainly the agreement with Mercosur, sensitive meadows and the wolf. For the union, these subjects are likely to be in the news in 2025 and the progress made on certain issues does not allay concerns. “We have informed the prefect of all this, but who can the prefect inform him of it? First of all, there would have to be a minister! We hope that the wolf issue will be his office as soon as he arrives“, confides Jean-Luc Boulet.
