A solar power plant project is causing a stir north of Béziers

#HERAULT – The future installation of a photovoltaic park in the commune of Autignac is causing a stir among the population, some of whom are frightened by the scale of the project. The solar power plant, with a capacity of 3 MWc (megawatts-peak), would be installed on the site of the former municipal landfill. “A formerly polluted space where nature has reclaimed its rights, thanks to time and public funding (Ademe and the Department having paid 30,000 euros for the rehabilitation of the site)”, reports the group of opponents denouncing a lack of information. The mayor, himself, confirms“a photovoltaic park of just over 3 hectares, on the 7 hectares of the former landfill, with 1.1 ha for the Angelotti company and 3 ha for Cévennes Energy” recalling that the solar power plant “would bring in 50,000 euros per year to the municipality over 25 years, as well as the property tax”. A public inquiry should be opened soon.

One dead and one injured in a shooting in Montpellier

#HERAULT – The suspect was still wanted on Friday, January 3, 2025, after the shooting on Thursday evening (January 2, 2025) in the La Paillade district of Montpellier. A car was targeted by a shooter who was traveling on a scooter. One of the passengers in the vehicle, aged 33, died shortly after arriving at the hospital where he was dropped off by a third party. He was known to the police for drug trafficking cases. The bullet-riddled car was found near the CHU. A second victim, a 24-year-old man, was injured in the leg. According to the prosecution: “The context in which the acts were committed suggests that they are linked to a settling of scores, without it being possible to state this with certainty at this time.”
