Gilles Brassard, 81, is accused of the first degree murder of his partner, Thérèse Brassard-Lévesque, 79, found lifeless in a seniors' residence in Terrebonne.
Gilles Brassard must remain detained during the proceedings.
The case dates back to September 30, when officers from the Terrebonne Intermunicipal Police Department were called to the Ressource Lanaudière residence on Yves-Blais Street for two people found unconscious in one of the bedrooms.
The death of Ms. Brassard-Lévesque was noted on site.
As for Gilles Brassard, he was transported to Pierre-LeGardeur hospital after receiving first aid on the scene. He allegedly tried to take his own life.
He was considered the main suspect and placed under police surveillance at the hospital.
The man was the victim's spouse and caregiver. He did not reside in the building.
La Ressource de Lanaudière is a private residence which specializes in welcoming elderly people with cognitive diseases, such as dementia and Alzheimer's.
