Who has never experienced those moments when mom and dad juggle their schedules with the activities of their teenagers? A daily exercise that weighs on family schedules, and in some cases, parents are given several hours a week to just do this task. To help them, the ride-hailing giant, Uber, is rolling out a unique solution for 13-17 year-olds, which will be launched on October 30 in France. The equivalent of Uber for Teen, launched last year in the US and Canada.

Technology for peace of mind

The application has been revamped with a function specially designed for young users. Accessible directly from the family profile (accessible from the Account tab of the application), this service has multiple safeguards: hand-picked drivers, a secret code system before departure, live tracking of the route… Nothing is left to chance. The youngest will be able to move around safely.

Parents even receive a notification at the slightest deviation from the itinerary or prolonged stop. A system that should reassure the most anxious. Families can also set a monthly envelope, thus avoiding unpleasant surprises on the bank statement. No update is expected, the application will update itself and you will be notified by email on Wednesday of the arrival of this new feature.

Thirteen cities at the forefront of the movement

From Paris to Marseille, via Bordeaux and Strasbourg, the service is launching in the main French cities. Lille, Amiens, Angers, Perpignan, Toulouse, Lyon, Nice, Nantes and Montpellier are also concerned. The timing of the launch is not insignificant: while the Halloween festivities are approaching – popular with two out of three teenagers according to a recent study – Uber is offering a first free trip for teenagers up to 23 euros. This will save some parents from having to play taxi driver all evening.

After proving itself across the Atlantic and in several European countries, this new generation VTC service meets the needs of modern families; at least those who can afford to pay. Parents will finally be able to breathe and teenagers will be able to gain autonomy without having to ride a scooter or electric scooter.

  • The app will incorporate strict security measures and allow parents to set a monthly budget for the trips ordered.
