Five people were hospitalized Sunday after a fire at an apartment near the intersection of Furby Street and Cornish Avenue in Winnipeg.
According to a press release from the City, two of them are in critical condition and the other three are in an unstable state.
The municipality says crews from the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service arrived on scene around 3:20 a.m. that flames and smoke were coming from a five-story building.
While attempting to put out the fire, firefighters evacuated several residents using ladders.
As several units sustained damage, 30 of the building's 40 residents reported that they would need help finding housing temporary. In the meantime, a Winnipeg Transit bus served as a shelter for residents, according to the city.
