The Royal Canadian Mounted Police asserts that five people, including three children, died in a house fire in central Saskatchewan on Sunday.

RCMP say the tragedy happened Sunday around 12:30 p.m. in Davidson, a town halfway between Regina and Saskatoon.

Upon arrival at the scene of the blaze on Ottawa Street, police officers and firefighters were able to remove an 80-year-old man and an 81-year-old woman from the burning house, but their death was pronounced at the hospital.

Once the fire was extinguished, the teams discovered the remains of three children. The ages of the children have not been revealed.

On Monday, the house was surrounded by police tape. The roof was partially collapsed and the windows were boarded up.

At the end of the afternoon, Monday, the federal police force indicated in a communicated that the cause of the fire was not suspicious in nature. The investigation is therefore complete, adds the RCMP.

An autopsy on the five bodies should take place in Saskatoon this week.

Davidson is a community of just over 1000 residents. Mayor Elaine Ebenal says members of her community are saddened by these deaths.

The entire community is truly devastated by this loss and our hearts go out to the family, she says.
