IN BRIEF

  • In 2021, Florent Pagny interrupted his tour for his 60th birthday following a diagnosis of lung cancer, followed by chemotherapy, documented by his daughter Aël in a photo book published by Harper Collins.
  • Aël Pagny revealed in an interview that his father is doing well and devoted a chapter of his book to disease, including a photo of Florent undergoing chemotherapy.
  • Aël Pagny's book offers an intimate and hopeful perspective on his father's struggle, while also hinting at future creative projects.

While he had just started a tour to celebrate his 60th birthday in 2021. Florent Pagny was forced to stop everything on medical decision. Indeed, the singer was diagnosed with lung cancer by his doctors. He was therefore forced to follow a chemotherapy protocol to treat himself. Three years later, his daughter Aël documented her father's fight against the disease in a photo book called Pagny by Aël, published by Harper Collins.

As part of the promotion of this book, Aël Pagny gave an interview to Marie-France on Tuesday, December 24, 2024. During this interview, Florent Pagny's daughter was of course questioned about her father's state of health. “He's doing very well, thank you. He's all in“, she said, without going into further details. In her photo book, Aël Pagny devoted a chapter to her father's illness, baptized “Interlude-Interrupteur-Guérir“.

He was the one who wanted to nickname the disease like that. It's true that once you learned about your illness. It put everything else on hold. It became the focus of your life and it interrupted everything you had planned to do. So, it's true that it's a good name for the situation (laughs). And in the book, I used the same word for the Interlude part, because it was quite faithful“, Florent Pagny's daughter first indicated.

We weren't going to hide the illness. Especially since he had spoken about it very early and very freely in his book, so it would have been strange to release this book on tour, without mentioning the cancer that forced him à stop concerts for a while. Especially since I had this photo (of Florent Pagny in the middle of a chemotherapy session, editor's note). Besides, it's the only one I took of those moments“, Aël Pagny then pointed out.

He, very modest and I, I don't have the reflex at all to take my father at his worst. This photo was to mark the moment, to show that it was the last radiotherapy session. After that, we took a photo with the team, which we kept for ourselves this time. The image is strong, but it is also a photo of hope“, finally concluded Florent Pagny's daughter on this subject. Asked about a possible future project with her father, Aël Pagny did not close the door.

Aël Pagny on her father: “We are both quite unpredictable!”

Why not! We don't have any new projects together yet, but anything can happen. We're both pretty unpredictable! In the meantime, I want to let the book live and breathe before jumping at any opportunity. But little by little, I'm getting ideas of what I could do in the future as a photographer“, Florent Pagny's daughter first declared.

Besides, I have a project with my brother Inca and his colleague and best friend. Both of them have done 7 frescoes in Argentina and I filmed everything. The goal is to make a documentary, so my brother and I are right in the middle of it. As for the rest of the projects, I have them in mind, but we will have to wait a little longer before they come to fruition…“, Aël Pagny finally concluded.
