The flu epidemic is still not abating in Occitanie. The virus is even circulating “more”. “The levels of the indicators analyzed by Public Health France last week are very high and exceed the levels observed since the beginning of the season” notes the regional health agency.

Consequence: “The use of care is increasing in all age groups and hospitalizations are increasing, particularly among the elderly”,alerts the ARS.

Flu epidemic: a new record week in Occitanie, with indicators "on the rise"

Last week, 1,348 people went to the emergency room with the flu, and 226 were hospitalized.

Flu and acute respiratory infections account for 76% of calls to SOS Médecins, and 57% of arrivals at emergencies.

65% of patients were 65 years old or older. This age group is also on the front line in intensive care: one in two patients.

21% were under 15.

Less than one in two people over 65 vaccinated

The increase in the number of flu cases is also noticeable in community medicine.

Barrier gestures and vaccination are the best ways to protect yourself. It remains insufficient in Occitanie: less than one in two people over 65 (48.6%) are vaccinated, and only 42.3% of people at risk.

At the beginning of the week, the vaccination campaign was extended until February 28.

On the other hand, “the regional indicators on Covid-19 are stable, at a low level”.
