Football: After five years in goal, goalkeeper Eric Moreau leaves Olympique d’Alès in Cévennes

The Alès club, which plays in National 3, has announced the departure of goalkeeper Eric Moreau, who had lost his place since mid-October.

Goalkeeper Eric Moreau, 25, has left Olympique d'Alès in Cévennes. The Cévennes club announced the news on Tuesday, January 14, explaining in a press release that the club and the player had “decided, by mutual agreement, to terminate the contract that bound them”.

Arrived at the OAC during the summer of 2020

Eric Moreau arrived in Alès at the age of 20, during the summer of 2020, from FC Ouest Tourangeau, after having been trained in Châteauroux and having passed through Romorantin. His beginnings, thwarted by the health crisis, did not prevent him from becoming a starter at the start of the 2021-2022 season, with coach Stéphane Saurat giving him his confidence. He was then in competition with Joseph Diatta and the young Louis Laurent.

In goal during the promotion to N2

Eric Moreau played in 24 of the 26 matches during the promotion to National 2 and reached the 7th round of the Coupe de France. Confirmed last season, he was one of the few starting players to have stayed at the club after the relegation to National 3, with Lucas Franco and Wilfried Baana Jaba.

Yanis Maamouch overtook him

This season, he played as a starter for the first six days of the championship. Coach Hakim Malek then preferred newcomer Yanis Maamouch. Having become a backup in mid-October, after a 4-3 defeat against Villefranche SJBFC, Eric Moreau has only played two other matches since then, with the OAC reserve team, in Regional 2.

A goalkeeper with great agility on his line, he also has a very efficient kicking game. “Eric (Moreau) has fully invested himself in his role on the field and within the club for five years, writes the OAC in its press release. He wanted to commit himself professionally to another, more personal project for the end of the season.”

Questioned by Midi Libre, Eric Moreau did not want to reveal the name of his new club. He will do so in a few days.
