Football: in the Coupe Gambardella, against OGC Nice, the heart was not enough for the Nîmes, beaten 1-2

On Sunday, January 12, at La Bastide, the Nîmes Olympique U18s lost to OGC Nice (1-2), eliminated in the last 32 of the Coupe Gambardella without having done badly.

At the final whistle and Nîmes' elimination against Nice (1-2), Lenny Colombani remained seated for several seconds, as if stunned, his gaze lost in space.

The crocodile goalkeeper must have remembered that damned 4th minute when, with the wind against him, he missed his kick-off from 6 meters, intercepted by the Côte d'Azur striker Aichen, who finished (0-1).

The mission, already complicated for the Nîmes U18s against a professional training center, had become even more difficult, and very early on.

Bileck wanted his team to play, play…

Surprised from the start, NO, pushed by a large crowd, (re)set out into battle, willing and generous. ''Before the match, I told the guys that, even with Nice facing us, we play, we play…'', noted coach Yannick Bileck.

So, his team played, and tried. Doucouré was too hesitant in his finishing, facing the empty goal, on a missed exit from the Nice goalkeeper Youst (26th). After a breakthrough in the area, El Jebari was caught running (32nd).

On the Nice side, more control, ball at the feet, but not really any danger on the goal of Colomani. He redeemed himself by keeping his team in the match on an attempt by Bouard, deflected for a corner (59th).

The marvelous goal of Soler

On the other side of the field, it was the striker Soler who distinguished himself. His marvelous sequence of chest control – volley from the left lodged in the top corner of Youst (1-1, 65th).

Not worried in the game, the Nîmes were going to be punished on set pieces. Aiche's free kick was taken by pro defender Doumbouya after a billiard shot (and a handball from Nice?) in the area (1-2, 78th).

One goal too many… ''We're disappointed because we knew there was room to win, reacted captain Andichi. This Cup, as the coach said, was for us. We went far, it made us happy, we played a good game and brought back some people.''
