“It was an assault, a raid to hurt.” Nîmes Olympique coach Adil Hermach, who went to inquire about the health of the crocodile supporters at the final whistle of the Châteauroux – Nîmes (3-2) National match, was shocked this Friday evening.

Shortly after the start of the second half of the match, around thirty individuals entered the stadium and the visitors' enclosure, where there were around fifteen Nîmes supporters, Gladiators (GN91, Ultra supporter group of Nîmes Olympique), mostly young people.

To steal the Gladiators' banner

The attack was violent and lightning fast. It seems that the aim was to steal the banner representing their association from the Gladiators. In the ultra milieu, a supporters club whose banner is stolen must go into hibernation…

The official press release from the Châteauroux club

La Berrichonne deplores the incidents that occurred this evening during the match against Nîmes Olympique. Despite the security service in place, around thirty individuals from outside the match and the city of Châteauroux, wearing balaclavas and armed with iron bars, broke into the Nîmes supporters' enclosure.

This act of violence left 4 injured who were treated by emergency services on site.

Shocked Through these actions, the club of La Berrichonne de Châteauroux strongly condemns this violence and supports the victims as well as Nîmes Olympique.

The club will file a complaint with the Public Prosecutor and requests that all light be shed on these intolerable facts.

This unacceptable and shameful behavior has no place in football and in sport.

According to several concordant sources, this Friday, January 24, in the Gaston-Petit stadium, it was Montpellier Hérault “supporters” who were the perpetrators of “these intolerable acts”, as the club Berrichonne de Châteauroux called them, acts that left four Gardois injured. Montpellier residents, more than 500 kilometers from home…

Armed attackers

The injured Nîmes supporters were rescued on site by the firefighters, in particular, while the police then secured the scene. Players and staff of Nîmes Olympique also got news before leaving by bus for the Gard, at the end of a nightmarish evening, the Crocos having lost 3-2 to the league's bottom team. They are now relegated.

“We went to see at the end if everything was okay, confided the captain of the Crocodiles Waly Diouf. What happened hurts even more. When we see what happened while our supporters spend time and money to come and encourage us. On a sporting level as in life, tonight, nothing was going well…”
