On Christmas Eve, some people still haven't finished their holiday shopping. Don't panic, the editorial team has visited the shops of Nîmes to offer you a selection of gifts to give to your loved ones.

Le petit paté nîmois

Without a doubt, THE local specialty by definition. With a base of simple ingredients – shortcrust pastry and veal and pork stuffing – the small Nîmes pâté has reinvented itself over the years to satisfy all palates. And Frédéric Boisson's business, Le Petit Nîmois, which opened its doors on November 28th on rue de la Madeleine, is no exception to the rule. In addition to the classics, the professional baker is offering a tasting box for the holidays: Le prestige. A dozen small pâtés, stuffed with foie gras, truffled brandade, black pudding and apple pieces or even porcini mushrooms and closed bacon (€20). A gourmet gift, which can be paired with a good local vintage, with wines from Costières or Saint Louis La Perdrix, which Frédéric Boisson also offers in store.

9 rue de la Madeleine. Open every day from 9 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 7 pm except on December 25th, 26th and January 1st.

Make-up remover wipes made in Nîmes

When you enter the Nîmes Tourist Office, your eye is immediately drawn to the many choices of gifts bearing the image of Nîmes and its Roman monuments. Christmas baubles, socks, hats, cups… Products that the Tourist Office makes a point of finding from local, even French, artisans. This is how the makeup remover wipes from Edmée et Lilly, a 100% Nîmes brand, ended up on the stalls of the Tourist Office. Eco-responsible products because they are reusable, on which are stamped the monuments of our city, such as the arenas, the AS or the Maison Carrée. For €26, a box containing six wipes and a pouch would make a perfect gift for women. On the same principle, socks from the French brand 1020 goûter, offer to proudly wear the symbols of Nîmes, right down to your toes (€19 for two pairs). Finally, the essential pétanque balls (€79 for classics and €109 for professionals) are still available at the tourist office shop.

6 boulevard des arènes. Open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. except on December 24 and 31, closing at 5 p.m. Closed on December 25.

Candles with local scents

Rue Borquiers, at number 1, Maison Hélios, Alexia Arnault's little shop, which opened almost a month ago, is always full. And for good reason. While candles are often found under the tree to offer a “cocooning” gift to loved ones, those of the former Miss Alès are as much collector's items as they are decorative items. Between the columns of the Maison Carrée and the representations of figures from ancient Rome, Alexia Arnault's products pay tribute to the history of Nîmes. Her flagship product ? The Maison Carrée-shaped pot (€30) with various scents: Neptune, with notes of cotton flower, white flower and apple; Venus with myrrh, with a hint of honey; or Diane, with scents of sandalwood and Tonka bean. And the little bonus is that once the candle has burned down, you can come back with the pot to refill it (€10 for a refill).

1 rue Borquiers. Open from 10 am to 7 pm every day. Closed on December 25 and Monday mornings.

The Crocodile Game of Nîmes

It’s been 5 years since the elegant board game, a revisited version of the famous Game of the Goose, was born in the head of Claude Deschamps of the eponymous bookbinding company located in the city center. Made up of tokens bearing the city’s coat of arms and a colorful board with 62 squares, all dedicated to an emblematic place in the city, the Nîmes crocodile game is entirely handcrafted by Claude Dechamps himself, in the workshop located in the back room of his store located at 13, Grand-Rue in Nîmes. Running out of ideas at the last minute ? Don’t panic! This board game, a tribute to the city of the Antonines (and which many also decide to display on the wall like a work of art), will suit both adults and children. It will be the ideal solution for having fun in a friendly way after the Christmas meal with family or friends between two slices of Yule log. Price: 55euros

13 Grand Rue. Open this Tuesday, December 24 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

From the Desclozeaux bull to Maison Carrée socks

Coasters (€12 for 6) or tea towel (€12.50) with the famous Desclozeaux bull, Nîmes card game (€6.50), socks with Maison Carrée (€10), or boxes with oil, wines, or local dishes, at Nîmes souvenirs, you can find everything, for all budgets. Open for 15 years, Eliette and Victor welcome you to the shop behind the arenas, near the courthouse, with plenty of advice for a simple attention or more elaborate gifts.

2A boulevard des Arènes. Open this Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 04 66 26 20 42

At Jeanne's (VDJ), we cultivate a taste for beautiful products and local origins. Perfumes, pottery and especially clothes designed in the Gard and some made in the department. Like these shoes, made in Aigues-Vives, by the botte gardianne. Black or white derbies (€340) or pink shoes (€240).

18 rue Auguste. Open Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
