An anesthesiologist-resuscitator at the Smur, he had directed and reorganized the emergency department in the early 2000s.
Former head of the emergency department at the Montpellier University Hospital in the early 2000s, Pierre Benatia died on Wednesday, January 15 at the age of 75. His funeral took place this Monday in the church of Vaureilles (Aveyron).
Pierre Benatia had been a boarder at the French high school in La Marsa (Tunisia) before coming to the Faculty of Medicine in Montpellier to complete his studies. He graduated from there.

He had renewed the emergency department
He was the one who inaugurated the new emergency department in November 2004, expanded and reorganized after three years of work. It was on this occasion that the pediatric emergency and psychiatric emergency departments had made their appearance. The department employed 350 people at the time and received more than 65,000 visits each year.
Pierre Benatia will be remembered as a great professional and a person who demonstrated great humanity.
