On paper, France Identité is an excellent way to better protect yourself on the Internet. In particular, it allows you to replace identifiers and passwords, but also to better combat various frauds. It is therefore with surprise that we learned that the service set up by the government is now itself the victim of a phishing campaign. Explanations.

A very well-oiled scam

In fact, and while we might think this form of hacking is a thing of the past, phishing remains the preferred means for cybercriminals to take action. In this case, malicious actors even spoofed the government's official email address.

The hackers thus targeted noreply@france-identite.gouv.fr. Enough to deceive a great many French people who will be convinced of the legitimacy of their interlocutor. The message received by some of our compatriots seems moreover very credible.

He explains to them that ” as part of the verification and for security and performance reasons “, they must send a copy of both sides of a valid identity document, as well as proof of address.

200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000

As rightly indicated Journal du Geek, this information is very sensitive and can then be used in identity theft. Scammers could try to take out a consumer loan in your name. The testimonies of victims of these frauds are often chilling, as proving your good faith in these cases is an obstacle course.

How to foil this trap ?

As you can see, vigilance is more important than ever. You are now aware of this type of scheme and you will not be fooled again. If you receive this type of email, we always advise you to contact the government agency in question to verify the request. You should never rush, because you would fall into the trap of these scammers who try to create a sense of urgency to push you into making a mistake.

Finally, you can report these attempted scams on the Signal Spam website and on the Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr platform. By alerting the authorities, you will strengthen the protections and prevent other Internet users from being fooled.

What you need to know:

  • France Identité is currently the victim of a phishing campaign
  • The scammers are spoofing official government email addresses to reinforce the credibility of their attack
  • You must be extra vigilant and never rush to respond
