A complicated period… In 2020, the broadcast of Malik Bentalha's one-man show on TF1 was a failure. Two years later, his first film as a director failed to find its audience. As phone calls became increasingly rare, the comedian suffered a major breakdown. Friday, December 27, 2024, it was then that he got back on his feet that he granted an interview to Le Parisien. “Today, with social networks, the advent of Instagram, we are forbidden to feel bad. I locked myself away at all levels, I stayed at home and looked at my cell phone, and ate, I let myself go, I gained weight. And then there was this movie that I really wanted to shoot”, he said.
Émentioning his weight gain, the comedian explained: “At costume fittings, I started lying about my size. I was sabotaging myself. &Three weeks into shooting, I told the director that I couldn't do the film, that I wouldn't be able to watch myself on screen. It was no longer possible…”. Finally, Malik Bentalha lost 50 kilos in 18 months.

I started my first sports session. After 10 minutes at 5 km/h, I was hurting everywhere. But I continued step by step”, he confided before specifying that he had lost weight without having surgery. “I work out every morning, and I ate watermelon, lots of watermelon! My drug has always been sugar. I started eating salads”, he added.
On Thursday, February 20, 2020, in the columns of Télé-Loisirs, the comedian had already spoken about his weight problems and had revealed that he had lost 35 kilos. “I feel much better. Going on stage every night, doing promotion… it seems like nothing is very physical and being in good physical condition allows me to not even feel tired. I do sports every day, I run like a hamster in a cage and I do a few push-ups, a few abs too”, he explained.
During this interview, the comedian had specified that he did not drink, that he did not smoke and that he did not do drugs. “But I have a real problem with food, since I was very little”, he had explained before specifying: “It's a drug, I'm a real popcorn and I handle it very badly: if at a given moment, I don't feel good, I'm going to eat! Sometimes if I'm determined, determined to lose weight, I become excessive. It's both ways!”.
On TF1's microphone, Malik Bentalha had already explained : “I am excessive, when I take pleasure and when I decide to do nothing, I do it thoroughly and on the contrary when I decide to get into it, I get into it thoroughly. I am never in the half-measure“.
