Gaza: Israel and Trump, the only obstacle to a truce ?

Spread the love

Hope for a truce in the Gaza Strip. Hamas called on “the US administration and Trump to pressure the Israeli government to stop the aggression” and thus establish an agreement with Israel.

Hope for a truce in Gaza ? Hamas has said it is “ready” for a ceasefire. But the terrorist organization has set two conditions. The first is that Israel decides to “respect” it. And above all, Hamas is encouraging “the American administration and Trump to pressure the Israeli government to stop the aggression.” The recent election of Donald Trump to the White House could breathe new life into the conflict, as the Republican has promised to bring peace to the region. The United States remains Israel's primary supporter in its war on Gaza. But Hamas is aware of the president-elect's position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

During his first term, Donald Trump pursued an openly pro-Israeli policy. For his second term, he wants to appoint Mike Huckabee as ambassador to Israel. He is close to the Netanyahu government and a fervent supporter of the colonization of Palestine. Thus, the return of Donald Trump to power could harden the fierce war that the Hebrew state is waging in the Gaza Strip. If during the campaign, the Republican candidate asked Benjamin Netanyahu to put an end to war, he also said he wanted to “win, achieve victory and end it.”

Talks deadlocked

Qatar has announced it is suspending its role as mediator in the war, urging all sides to be “serious.” Talks appear to be stalled. A total of 97 Israelis remain hostages in Gaza, including 34 who have been declared dead by the army. Since the only truce that allowed the release of more than 100 hostages at the end of November 2023, negotiations have been at an impasse.
