France générosités tire un bilan encourageant de la solidarité des Français avec les personnes les plus en difficultés et les grandes causes.

The French are increasingly generous: in 2022, they gave 9.225 billion euros “to causes of general interest supported by private non-profit or public organizations”, estimates, in a report drawn up on December 13, France générosités, the professional union of associations and foundations which brings together more than 150 organizations.

According to the union, generosity “is driven by 58% by donations from individuals”, via 5.5 million donor tax households, and “by 42% by donations from companies”, 142,500 sponsoring companies are listed.

“In 2022, declared donations from individuals represent 3.632 billion euros. Since 2006, this amount has increased 2.3-fold with an average annual growth of 6%”, details France générosités.

“Coluche donations” have increased by +61%

“Between 2010 and 2022, the number of corporate sponsors has increased 5.2-fold”, also notes France générosités. And this growth is driven by VSEs, very small businesses, “whose share among all patron companies increased from 47% in 2010 to 62% in 2022”.

Who benefits from this increase in donations? “To public bodies and state support funds dedicated to emergencies, mainly the Notre-Dame fire, but also the war in Ukraine, natural disasters such as Hurricane Irma…”

“To organizations helping people in difficulty”, these are the “so-called donations “Coluche””, they “increased by 61% between 2019 and 2022”.

Finally, to European organizations and press support organizations. The situation is more contrasted for donations to political parties and election campaigns: drop in membership fees, increase in donations from individuals.

And for Catholic and Protestant religious organizations, France générosités observes “a sharp drop in the number of donor households but increasing generosity”.
