Germany: Hotel collapses, one dead, eight trapped under rubble

A hotel collapsed Tuesday night for a reason that is still unknown. One person died and eight people were buried under the rubble. Only four have been able to get out so far.

The tragedy occurred on the night of Tuesday 6th to Wednesday 7th August, in Kröv, in western Germany. A hotel partially collapsed, killing one person, according to local police information, reported by BFMTV. What worries the German authorities are the four people still trapped under the rubble on Wednesday morning. Rescue workers managed to rescued four more people overnight, including a man, two women and a two-year-old child. According to a police statement, some of those still trapped under the rubble are “seriously injured” and they have not been able to make contact with them.

A massive rescue operation

The collapse occurred around 11pm on Tuesday night. While the reasons for this event are still unknown, some guests claim to have heard a detonation and seen a cloud of dust before the ground collapsed beneath their feet. There were fourteen people in the hotel at the time. Five people got out on their own and four were pulled out of the rubble. Around thirty people living near the hotel were evacuated by emergency services. The latter were sent to the scene. Such a rescue operation is explained by the danger collapsed sites. They were unable to enter what remained of the building.
