It's hurricane season across the Atlantic! After the passage of Beryl a little over a month ago, which unfortunately caused several dozen deaths in Louisiana, in the Caribbean and Texas, Mother Nature is unleashing herself again. Debby, the hurricane that swept across the entire west coast of Florida a few days ago, has calmed down and is now downgraded to a tropical storm.
On the other hand, the rest of the disturbances are heading at high speed towards Europe and analysts expect it to arrive in France around August 14 or 15. Although significantly weakened, this weather system remains very unstable and will bring strong winds and heavy rain, particularly in the northwest regions.
Debby continues her tumultuous course along the American Atlantic coast. Its wake is punctuated by torrential precipitation, notably causing floods in South Carolina. Its approach to Canada arouses some apprehension, in particular because of the considerable load of humidity that it still carries. Even if Debby is no longer a hurricane, its passage can still be synonymous with flooding.
Despite the attenuation of its winds, the clouds remain threatening, since they are saturated with water. Soon caught up in the jet stream (a powerful current of air which circulates at altitude around the Earth), Debby will therefore cross the Atlantic, heading towards the Old Continent. Météo France forecasters are considering its arrival in France as the possible epilogue of the current heatwave, promising a welcome, if potentially disruptive, cooling effect.
As Debby approaches the French shores, its influence will be felt mainly in the northwest quarter of the country. Experts are anticipating an increase in winds and intense rain, likely to disrupt the weather for the coming week.
Even though Storm Debby will continue to lose its power, it could still cause significant inconvenience. So stay tuned to the weather forecast and prepare yourself for potentially unsettled conditions starting next week.
