For its tenth edition, the Fées de Noël craft market, embroidered by the team of the United Protestant Church of Nîmes, does not fail to live up to its reputation: a majestic decor, original creations and talented artisans. Enough to find, at the Petit Temple (entrance rue du Grand-Couvent), again today, Saturday December 7 until 7 p.m., and tomorrow, Sunday December 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., among the jewelry, candles, textile or leather goods, cardboard boxes… original gifts, while tasting homemade pastries and listening, Sunday at 2:30 p.m., to the gospel songs of Ami Music. We give you ideas.
Sylvie's dyed and printed textiles
She learned to print in India, dye in the Lubéron and collect plants in the Cévennes. Since 2019, Sylvie Fournier has cultivated her multiple passions for travel, fabric and nature in her Alès workshop, imagining scarves, stoles, pouches… with original patterns. “I start with a white fabric made of natural fibers, cotton, silk, wool or linen in the summer, then I dye it with plants, picked in the Causses and the scrubland: St. John's wort, eupatorium agrimony, terebinth pistachio, pagoda tree… from which I make a decoction.” Then it's time for old-fashioned printing with a wooden block made with the desired patterns in Rajasthan. The Hispanist thus gives birth, after sewing them, to original pieces. See on Instagram J'indigo.
Gaëlle's upcycled objects
Graphic designer, illustrator, interior designer: Gaëlle Jammes from Nîmes cultivates her creative sense in multiple fields. Including that of upcycled objects, an ecological approach started in “the creation of a suspension. I did research, found different techniques. I start with objects that have a story, that are given to me or that I find at garage sales.” Giving tealight holders, bottles, candlesticks a second life thanks to the application of a paste based on acrylic and natural pigments, giving a refined patina. Another Christmas gift idea, personalized illustrations from a photo of a loved one and a small descriptive textile. “I then represent her on an illustrated poster: the print can be unique or in a limited series.” Contact at 06 37 68 86 96, website unesourisdanslaville.fr.
Caroline's earthenware ceramics
Yesterday, she was a nurse. Today, Caroline Bresson is a ceramicist, giving free rein to her passion for mixed earth since 2020 in her workshop in Hauts-de-Nîmes. “I am self-taught. I create utilitarian objects (carafes, cups, dishes, plates, etc.) and decorated ceramic objects: everything is done by hand, without a potter's wheel to keep the patterns of the clay”, explains the young woman who, when she “touches the clay, relaxes and forgets everything“. A feeling that she shares during two workshops, one of discovery around modeling, the other dedicated to mixed clay, open to all, “even to people who are not manual“.
