While not shining with its excellent health on and off the field, the Nîmes Olympique club does not forget to take care of the younger generations. This Monday, December 16, in the morning, as part of the departmental program Sports at the college, middle school students from the Elsa-Triolet establishment in Beaucaire were welcomed to the Crocos training center. The middle school students thus had the opportunity to attend a training session, meet the players in training and discover the behind the scenes of the club.

“Giving a concrete vision of sports practice”

Vincent Bouget, departmental councillor for the canton of Nîmes 3 and delegate for Sports, represented the president of the Gard Department Françoise Laurent-Perrigot: “The meeting between middle school students and athletes from the major Gard clubs, as well as the visit to the high-level facilities without which talents could not emerge, aims to give students a concrete vision of sports practice and its advantages. We are happy to continue the Sportsmen at Middle School program offered to clubs, athletes or stakeholders who request it because it is enjoying growing success”, thus estimate the representatives of the departmental council.

Fifteen middle schools and eleven associations already involved in the program

This visit follows the club's visit to the middle school on 18 November last, around five themes: benefits of sport, sport and studies, daily life of a top athlete, mental preparation and nutrition/diet. The main objective of the Sportsmen in College program is to promote the values of sport to middle school students. It takes place throughout the school and sports year, throughout the departmental territory, depending on the availability and proposals for interventions and the feasibility within the middle schools. Currently, eleven Gard sports associations participate in this program, involving around fifteen middle schools.
