Gmail to Delete Thousands of Accounts in Early December: Here's How to Avoid It

The Christmas holidays are coming, but Gmail won't be giving away any gifts. This December 1st, several thousand accounts will be deleted. Don't worry, it's not too late to escape.

Gmail is getting ready to do its traditional winter cleaning. All inactive accounts on the application will simply be deleted from the platform. A real cleaning that you can still escape, at provided that you follow the following advice.

Starting December 1st, all inactive profiles will be irreversibly deleted. The account and all its personal data on Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar, Photos) will disappear the deadline.

The application of such a measure, although brutal, is crucial for Google. It is a way for the American company to strengthen the security of its users. Abandoned accounts, which do not have the latest updates, are indeed more easily hacked by cyberattacks. Leaving these ghost profiles on the platform exposes them to the risk of having their personal information leaked. 

Please note that corporate and education Google accounts, even if abandoned, will not be affected by the big winter cleaning.

There are several ways to save personal and private accounts before December 1st. Simple and effective, they won't take you any time and will allow you to save your data:

  • Send an email in Gmail
  • Do a Google search while logged in to your account
  • Watch a YouTube video while logged in to your account
  • Use Google Drive (by saving or deleting files)
  • Install an application in from Google Play Store
