The competition between Google and OpenAI is getting tougher in the field of artificial intelligence. While the creator of ChatGPT recently launched its Sora video generator, Google has just presented Veo 2. This is an improved version of the Veo video generator, which the firm announced in May.
“Veo 2 creates incredible quality videos across a wide range of subjects and styles. In head-to-head comparisons by human reviewers, Veo 2 performed at the cutting edge of technology compared to leading models,” Google’s statement reads. In other words, Veo 2 would outperform Sora. In any case, while Sora can only generate videos of a few seconds, with a resolution of 1080p, Veo 2 can create videos of several minutes in 4K resolution.

“It brings a deeper understanding of real-world physics and the nuances of human movement and expression, which helps improve overall detail and realism. Veo 2 understands the unique language of cinematography: ask it for a genre, specify a lens, suggest cinematic effects, and Veo 2 will take care of it,”, Google also says. In other words, you can ask for a close-up, or even use an 18mm lens, for example.
Google also states that Veo 2 is less likely to produce hallucinations (when the AI generates images of hands with extra fingers, for example). As a result, the results are even more realistic. However, for the moment, the availability of this technology is very limited. Indeed, the firm has decided to deploy Veo 2 very gradually, in order to improve the quality and safety of the artificial intelligence.
For the moment, Veo 2 is only available on Google's VideoFX video creation tool. And while Google says it will expand the number of people who can use the tool, it still has a waiting list and is restricted to people over 18 who live in the United States.
