Google Lens enables video and voice to enrich your search results

© Presse-citron

The Google Lens application will soon allow you to refine your searches en contextualizing your queries through audio and video. An addition that will make it a little more precise and perhaps limit the errors of interpretation that it demonstrated quite often. If you combine Lens with the Gemini app, searching for information has never been more intuitive.

Contextualize your searches with voice

Since 2022, Google Lens' Multisearch feature has allowed you to enrich initial queries with additional requests, thus refining the results obtained. However, this feature has long been perceived as tedious, because it only allowed context to be added after the initial search had been performed. Unusual to use.

Luckily, Google has just simplified this process considerably by introducing a new function that allows you to speak directly to ask questions about an image.

It is also possible to record video clips while adding audio commentary. When you open Google Lens, the search icon animates to grab your attention. Simply hold down the search button to capture a video and provide additional contextual information at the same time. Search results incorporate this rich context, making the overall experience much more intuitive and immediate.

A more dynamic interface

This innovation is already available on a plethora of Android devices. On top of that, Google has improved Lens' interface by adding a handy grid view, giving users the ability to easily track their visual search history.

At the same time, the Mountain View giant is actively working on the integration of the Circle to Search functionality, which further boosts image search. Instead of having to take a photo and then process it, you can simply circle the item you're interested in right on your screen. A functionality quite close, or even completely similar, to that introduced this year by the Samsung Galaxy S24.

In gradual deployment, these new additions should appear on your devices shortly. At the time of writing this article, these were not yet available on all the smartphones of the Presse-Citron editorial staff, we can bet that this should not take too long.

  • Google Lens welcomes several new features to refine its search results.
  • It is possible to record your voice to ask questions directly about an image as well as to record video sequences to contextualize the search.
  • The application will also welcome the Circle to Search functionality; these new additions are currently being rolled out gradually.
