In addition to Tesla, SpaceX and the social network X, Elon Musk also has an artificial intelligence laboratory called xAI, which positions itself as a direct competitor to OpenAI. xAI has already developed a chatbot called Grok that was initially only offered to users of the premium version of X. But recently, Grok has also become available to users of the free version of the social network. And now, xAI is preparing an application dedicated to its artificial intelligence.

As reported by our colleagues at TechCrunch, Elon Musk’s lab has started beta testing its ChatGPT competitor on iOS, in a few countries, including the United States. “Grok is an AI assistant, developed by xAI, designed to be as truthful, helpful, and curious as possible. Get answers to any question, generate striking images, and upload photos to better understand your world. With Grok, the universe is in your hands!”, reads the description of the new iPhone application.

A website is also in the works

For the moment, it is not known when this application will be available worldwide. But in any case, in addition to this iOS application, Grok is also preparing the launch of a website. As TechCrunch explains, this site is already accessible at Grok.com but for the moment, it does not allow access to the chatbot.

In any case, after being an exclusive for users of the social network X, Grok is about to reach a wider audience, thanks to its mobile application and a dedicated website. This strategy will allow xAI to reach a wider audience and better compete with apps like Gemini or ChatGPT.

Currently, xAI is already one of the main players in the generative AI market. According to a Bloomberg article, it is already worth $50 billion, which would be higher than the valuation of the social network X. As a reminder, the former Twitter was bought for $44 billion.

  • Elon Musk has an AI lab called xAI that positions itself as a competitor to OpenAI
  • Initially, xAI's Grok chatbot was reserved for paying users of the social network X
  • Then, it was deployed to users of the free version of the social network
  • And now, xAI is preparing an iOS application, already tested in beta, as well as a website
  • xAI seems to want to reach a wider audience to better compete with apps like ChatGPT or Gemini
